Do not send your child to this school.. The principal and asst. principal are not concerened with what is best for a child or children. The have one agenda and that is their standing, if a parent has an issue for any reason, the child and parent is marked as bad or a problem. For example. my son was being picked on so I went to principal for help, she was very defensive and said my child was being a baby and needed to grow up. Now my child and I are being shunned by people within the school. Next school year we will not be at this school. Very sad..

my experience with this school has been anything but positive. The leaders of this school are very critical of students, they have been rude and unwelcoming especially to a child that has any kind of learning disability. The school is run more like prison, I have witnessed on several occasions children being made to feel bad about themselves and their abilities. When choosing a elem. school in Salem VA do not choose this school.

the leader's of this school are only concerned with their own bias opinions of people and has no problem gossiping about their opinion to others. If the child has any type of learning disabilities the leaders at this school will try and keep any help from being addressed or offered. The children are expected to be at school sick or not, expecting you as a parent to send them sick, so they can decide if the child is sick or not. I was once told by one of these leader's the parent is not the best person to decide the health of their child, it is more important for the child to come and be counted and then the school nurse can decide if the child is sick or not. The children are not allowed to talk during their breakfast or lunch. The school is very rigid and unwelcoming, except for the secretary. I find it all very sad, that so many parents do not question the environment that their children are in. If you care about your child's self-esteem then do not send to this school.

I have been exceptionally pleased with the school. The principal cares for each child and the support of teachers are great. They go the extra mile to ensure that your child gets a good education. The school is a diverse school and there are families from all economic backgrounds but they treat each child the same and they all receive a good education. They are a Title I school and specialized in helping in Math and Reading and one year they had a Spanish speaking teacher that assisted with parents that do not speak English well. I am pleased all around with my child's progress at this school and think it was a great choice for my family.

I have been very impressed by how well organized they are. The teachers were all very kind. The PTA Volunteers I met were also great. East Salem has a great team and that usually comes from having a great leader. In the times I have spoke with her even though she was busy she took the time to help. John Bryant / Super Kicks Karate

I disagree with the reviews and rating that this school has received. My childs experience with this school has been horrible. This school only cares about test scores and not the well being of the child. Children are not allowed to talk at lunchtime, if any homework is incorrect they have to miss out on things like recess, gym, music, library. Lunch is sometimes eaten in class so they can do work....my childs self esteem is going downhill in this stressful environment.

The East Salem PTA is outstanding. Parent-involvement is like no other. My son attended East Salem K - 5th grade. We loved it! When I visited the school, the faculty and staff either knew my name or acknowledged me. I often ate lunch with my son and was always involved as a room-parent. Mrs. Barnett is a phenominal 3rd-grade teacher. Mrs. Craighead was another of our favorites. Visit this school. It is definately a rare find!

I think East Salem Elementary School has a fine group of teachers. I have 2 daughters 1 that will be going into the 3rd grade & another that will be just starting. My oldest daughter has been very lucky to have had such caring teachers. They have worked with her so much. Thank you and keep up the great work.
